College of the Desert (or COD) is a public two-year community college located in Palm Desert in the Coachella Valley of Riverside County, California.
The college's beginnings date back to 1958, when voters in the Coachella Valley approved the formation of a junior college district, with the first classes being held on its newly built 160 acre (647,000 m²) site in 1962.
In 1966, residents of the high desert north of the Coachella Valley voted to join the college district, leading in 1984 to the opening of the Copper Mountain Campus in Twentynine Palms.

The back-to-back defending Western State Conference South Champions College of the Canyons (18-8, 11-1) will travel to College of the Desert (24-6, 12-2) in the first round of playoffs on Friday, February 25th.
This year COC was ranked #12 in the standings only because they were ranked #9 before two teams in the same conference were slated to play against each other in the first round of playoffs, which is not allowed by the Commission on Athletics.
The Cougars were then pushed down to the #12 spot and slated to play #5 College of the Desert.

Copper Mountain College Foundation, (CMCF), is the fundraising arm of Copper Mountain College, (CMC), the newest (108th) college in the California Community College System, in Joshua Tree, California, serving the rural communities of the southwestern Mojave Desert.
Formed in 1981 as part of the effort to establish a full service community college campus in the Morongo Basin, the “Friends” began the fundraising and public awareness campaign that led to the construction of the first phase of Copper Mountain College, dedicated in 1984.
The Foundation has raised nearly $3 million for the College, and is its major source of non-governmental funding.
