Collingsworth County's population dropped to 9,139 in 1950, 6,276 in 1960, 4,755 in 1970, 4,648 in 1980, and 3,206 in 2000.

Collingsworth is named for James Collinsworth, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and first chief justice of the Republic of Texas.
Collingsworth County is one of 46 prohibition or entirely dry counties in the state of Texas (as of February 2005).
In the county, the population was spread out with 26.40% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 22.60% from 25 to 44, 22.50% from 45 to 64, and 22.00% who were 65 years of age or older.

The revocation as alleged in the petition is by reason of the commission of the crime of aggravated assault allegedly committed against one John Brock on March 16, 1958, by the petitioner, James A. Brown, in Collingsworth County, Texas.
He asserts that the judgment entered in Collingsworth County, Texas on March 17, 1958, was invalid and should be set aside because it was obtained by promises and false representations made to him and by threats to induce him to plead guilty.
In this case the record shows that another charge was lodged against petitioner for aggravated assault in the same Collingsworth County, Texas, but the case was dismissed because the aggrieved party left the County and did not appear against the petitioner.
