Collins Street is named after Lieutenant_Governor David Collins who led a group of settlers in establishing a short_lived settlement at Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne in the early 1800s.
The length of Collins Street between Elizabeth and King Streets has long been the financial heart of Melbourne and is home to the stock exchange, banks and insurance companies.
Collins Street also has some of Melbourne's largest churches such as the Collins Street Baptist Church, the Scots Presbyterian (1874) and the St Michael's Uniting Church (1986).

Collins explained that the fourth request meant if someone owned one of the properties to the north they are not supposed to allow a driveway that would run down to the fueling center.
Collins said the City has control over the driveways and the condition of the driveway would be that it be used for that business only and that it not be used to funnel traffic to the fueling station.
Collins replied that during the meeting when the courts were discussed a solution to the dust problem on Grace Street was also brought up and the suggestion was made to staff that they look at different alternatives to eliminate the dust problem.

 Melbourne Docklands Tramway Extension
I have included a screencapture from a street directory map of part of the Docklands development area showing the streets where the tramline will go for those who are unfamiliar with the area.
A2 class tramcar 298 was pictured at the terminus on the western end of the Collins Street Bridge, shortly after the opening of the line in November 2002.
At the time of this photo, the curves from Latrobe Street Extension were under construction with railbed having been laid and rails placed for the extension southward.

Spencer Street Station has separated the Docklands from the City for 140 years but with the Collins Street Bridge and the recently completed La Trobe Street Bridge, there will be major connections between the City and Victoria’s new waterfront.
“This new Collins Street Bridge is an essential part of the Government’s plan to open up Melbourne to the water, and to give the inner city a new precinct, a new focus and a new life,” Mr Thwaites said.

The street lost a lane and got the infamous knuckles or bump-outs.
What I am suggesting is to continue Harding as a one-way street allowing 2 lanes of traffic to 72nd street.
At 72nd street 2 lanes are allowed to turn left on Collins, yet some 4-car parking spaces at the curb parking discourages both lanes to be utilized.
