The Barricade on the Rue de la Chanvrerie: A tribute to Les Misérables
Colm Wilkinson didn't wait too long on the OLC before impressing the listener - the original Valjean's beautfully mellow and full voice first introduced itself by arguing with Javert (Roger Allam), and then by delivering a stunning Soliloquy of a quality that was unexpected of a "first" performance.
"Who Am I?" and "Confrontation" both had the powerful voice of Wilkinson propelling them forward, and by the time "Bring Him Home" came up, it was impossible not to have fallen in love with Wilkinson's portrayal of the ruthlessly oppressed yet ever sacrificing saint.
The song was composed only a few weeks before the debut of the musical in London and was specifically tailored to Wilkinson's range and abilities as a singer - no wonder why he is still the best in performing it.
