The first plant was raised from a pip (of unknown origin, possibly from a Ribston Pippin) around 1825, at Colnbrook in England by a retired brewer and horticulturist Richard Cox.
The variety was introduced for sale by the 1850s, and grown commercially from the 1860s, particularly in the Vale of Evesham, and later in Kent.
According to the Institute of Food Research [1], Cox's Orange Pippin accounts for over 50% of the UK area of dessert apples.

Not only do they intend to build one of the largest incinerators in the country at Colnbrook but they intend to build it on the doorstep of one of the most vulnerable populations in the UK, namely Slough which has the highest mortality rate in the South-east.
It is a great concern that the Sint Niklaas incinerator was only a ninth of the size of the proposed incinerator at Colnbrook and there was only one incinerator and there was no incineration of radioactive waste which is, of course, highly carcinogenic.
Firstly it confirmed earlier cohort studies such as the Six Cities study and the ACS study which showed that exposure to fine particulate pollution led to increases in mortality, particularly cardiac mortality, and lung cancer.

Already home to a materials recycling facility, Colnbrook site is considered to be well placed to take waste from London and Surrey and is also close to the M4 and the M25 motorway, where current widening work will make access to the incinerator easier.

Following rousing speeches from several of these citizens, over 100 people marched on the Grundon site at Colnbrook, protesting against the plan to build two huge waste incinerators and releasing 50 fl balloons to symbolise the dangerous pollution given out from incinerators.
Inspired by the speakers spirit of resistance and a personal heartfelt plea to the Borough Councillors to vote for a public enquiry at their meeting on Wednesday, the crowd proceeded to march on Grundon's site, demanding a halt to their ridiculous and potentially deadly plans.
SAIN wish to thank the Colnbrook Primary School for allowing us to keep warm inside their hall, and most of all to thank the people who joined us in protesting this potential nightmare.
