The Colne Valley crosses the Pennines in West Yorkshire.
Most of the population had been weavers for generations, so when water-powered textile mills were built on the many streams and small rivers in the area, the area was well set to become a major producer of textiles.
The River Colne and the Huddersfield Narrow Canal provided early transport links which were soon added to by road and railway links to Huddersfield and Leeds to the East and Manchester and Liverpool to the West.

Colne and Rickmansworth are two of the 29 statutory water companies (SWCs) which, with the ten water services public limited companies (WSPLCs), supply water in England and Wales.
Colne, Lee and Rickmansworth have been associated for a number of years in a scheme to take water from the River Thames.

The second half started, Tooting immediately attacked and 2 minute into this half Becks good through ball out on the right to Emma K saw her by pass the outcoming keeper and place her shot towards goal.
It was a disappointing defeat because with a bit more of the old effort, commitment and determination from some of the players Tooting could and should have won this one.

This nice little book is a compilation of articles written for the Colne Engaine Parish Magazine by Polly Clarke between 1999 and 2003.
The Colne Valley is wonderful for cycling, it has beautiful scenery and small quaint villages which you can enjoy as you ride along its many small and winding traffic-free country roads.

Milnsbridge was one of the most important places for many textile companies, the river Colne rang through it's centre and supplied the water.
Another panoramic view looking down towards Golcar, this shows examples of the different occupations, from farming on the hill sides to the giant textile mills in the valley bottom to the many weavers cottages clustered in the centre of Golcar.
As the textile industry expanded so did the population, these houses being built in the early 20th century and possibly occupied by the mill workers, Scar Lane overlooks the Colne valley and the textile mills in the valley bottom and it is not surprising to find many large victorian mansions situate here.
