It is found only on the Tsodilo hills in the northwest of the ecoregion.
Near-endemics include Kalahari purple-glossed snake (Amblyodipsas ventrimaculata), Kalahari ground gecko (Colopus wahlbergii), and Leonard’s spade-snouted worm lizard (Monopeltis leonhardi).
Many of the large herbivores found in the ecoregion undertake seasonal migrations, especially during droughts.
