  www.amateurmicroscopy.net...Print Film for Photomicrography
I reasoned that it was much easier to hand around 4" x 6" color prints for people to view than it was to drag out a slide projector and screen for a slide show or to force people to view 35mm transparencies on a light table with a focusing loupe.
A second advantage to using color negative film is that the exposure latitude of print film is greater than the exposure latitude of color transparency films, especially when image tones approach the lighter end of the exposure scale.
Color transparency films must be exposed carefully to retain details in the highlight areas of the images.

 88 Color Films Compared - - PopPhotoJuly 2002
Film makers have made modest improvements to a few color print films, but since last year's color film chart, only Konica has a from-the-ground-up new product: Centuria Super 1600.
New films are on the drawing boards that promise, if manufactured, to function more efficiently and more economically with scanners, inkjet printers, digital minilabs, and other components of the digital equation.
Its grain is close to that of an ISO 200 speed slide film, and its color is excellent—very saturated with nice contrast.

 Slides in general
The earliest practical color photography was the Autochrome process - this was an additive screenplate method which produced a colour slide, but was rather dim, and with the colour resultion limited by the fineness of the screen-plate..
Through about 1995, color transparencies were the only photographic medium used for serious publishing, and were widely used in commercial and advertising photography, reportage, sports, stock, and nature photography.
The most common form of modern slide is the 35mm slide, essentially a positive-image printing onto the standard 35mm film used in the movie industry, then placed inside a cardboard or plastic shell.

 Astro Film Tests
This film had the best response of the 200-speed films tested, and was the only one to produce acceptable results in all three test objects.
Also, color and detail recorded by the 800-speed films for the 15-minute test exposures was almost identical to those of the 400-speed films tested at the same exposure lengths.
All known available chromogenic films were tested, without regard to the general criteria that had been used to select the color films.

Color slide films are called direct positive images because the film you shoot and the slides you get back are made from the exact same film.
Color slide films are used primarily in projectors or hand-held viewers.

The overall assignment includes the use of color print film, processing the film (NOT with chemicals used for fl and white), scanning the negatives, using PhotoShop to prepare the images, and printing 8 x 10 color images on the Goshen College color laser printer.
Color film that is over exposed and under exposed will have less color saturation and prints with more noticeable grain.

Color films - a Choice ! What film make to buy?
It turned out that there are people who either have problems with delicate color perception or people who simply do not care if their prints have a noticeable cyan tint (for example) so often produced by cheap 1hr labs.
Prints from the same batch may turn out different shades because one roll spent 3 days in a different storage environment, prints may have entirely different palette when printed on the same machine in the morning and afternoon.
Some folks think that it is better to process the film on the spot when out of the country to avoid hitting the latent image with X-rays in the airports.

Unlike most print films from competitor Fuji, where brighter colors can be supersaturated and lose detail (especially reds and yellows), the level of color in the Vista line of films will reproduce on print paper the way you saw them in your camera's viewfinder.
Facial coloring appear natural and the less harsh contrasts are also useful in minimizing blemishes in skin tone and reducing unnatural highlights.
AGFA has continued to refine and reduce grain size in all of their print films and perhaps the best example can be found in Vista 100.

These films were discontinued about 1982/83 when KODAK introduced their 5384/7384 Eastman Color Print film with excellent low fade properties (LPP) and this film was used for making practically all prints from 16mm and 35mm color negatives.
According to KODAK the only difference between SP (7383) and their standard Eastman Color print film (7381) is that it used a higher temperature processing bath and a shorter processing time.

I have alot of color print and color slide photos from the 1970's that are turning green or blue, and are slowly becoming the equivalent of a fl and white photo.
With Kodachrome the various colors are actually layers that are left or removed to obtain the correct color during the developing process.
Today's other print and slide films simply have 'grains' that change color when exposed to light ; and over time keep changing colors.
