Color temperature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The lamp's color temperature is the temperature in kelvins at which the heated fl-body radiator matches the hue of the lamp.
Color temperatures and mireds are convertible to each other via a simple formula (see the mired page for details of the computations, and the reasons for the use of the alternative unit).
The CIE developed a newer model for describing and rating light sources, called the color rendering index, which is a mathematical formula describing how well a light source's illumination of eight sample patches compares to the illumination provided by a reference source.

Color rendering capacity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Color rendering properties of light can be examined from, at least, two perspectives.
First, when one focuses on the accuracy of color rendering, one can make use of the CIE color rendering index, which tells how closely the color appearances of 8 test samples lit by a light of given spectral composition resemble those of the same samples lit by a Planck radiator with the same color temperature.
Second, when one focuses on the effectiveness of color rendering, one can turn to the Color Rendering Capacity(CRC), which indicates the upper limit for the number of those colors which can be vividly rendered by a light of given spectral composition.

Cranial capacity is a measure of the volume of the interior of the skull
Color rendering capacity, in photometry, is a measure of how broad a color space can be perceived under the illumination of a specific light.

Studio lighting and color-rendering (the capacity of a light to reproduce the color effects of daylight) can be complicated issues, but by taking the time to learn a bit about the types of lighting available, you can improve your painting studio.
I assume that by “color correcting light systems” you mean “full-spectrum” lamps, which simulate the effects, in color temperature and color-rendering ability, of natural daylight by covering the spectrum of light more fully than either incandescents or fluorescents alone.
In either case, the color temperature is higher than that of regular lamps, which gives you better color-rendering, and there are no hot or cool spots with these lamps because the illumination is combined in one fixture and diffused through a filter.

Effect of Veiling Reflections on Vision of Colored Objects
Color rendering, meaning the effects of the source SPD, is not a variable in this discussion.
The effect of adding white to a particular color is shown by an arrow, with its tail at the initial saturation (c*) and lightness (L*) and arrowhead at the new values.
If a shiny colored object is lighted by a compac source near a dark area, the source image will be a bright white highlight, and the image of the dark area will define a region in which the object's pigmentation can be clearly seen.

These color primaries (shown on the left) have a curious property-- they have negative energy in portions of their spectra, i.e., they are not physically realizable.
The colors in the diagram are not accurate, but the representation is about as good as can be obtained with the limited color gamut of a computer monitor.

This pattern of results suggests that many of the visibility advantages attributed to the use of fluorescent colors in safety applications may be mediated by top-down attentional mechanisms rather than bottom-up (preattentive) mechanisms as previously assumed.
One of the assumptions that pervades the literature on the visibility of fluorescent colored materials used in safety research is that fluorescent colors "grab your attention".
During the initial 32 trials, the position of the four non-fluorescent colored stimuli (red, green, yellow, orange) as well as the position of the four arrow directions were completely randomized.

 Why Digitize
One must think about the nature of the source materials (color, fl and white, or shades of gray) and the use of the images (who will be consulting them and for what) when making decisions about the parameters for image capture.
While work is ongoing to address the quality control and variability of computer monitors, as yet the lack of control over display mechanisms constitutes one of the weakest links in the digital chain of transmission.
Image processing—the manipulation of images after initial digital capture—can greatly expand the capacity of the researcher to compare and contrast details that the human eye cannot see unaided.

Abstract: This paper describes a new hardware volume rendering algorithm for time-varying data.
The algorithm uses the Time-Space Partitioning (TSP) tree data structure to identify regions within the data that have spatial or temporal coherence.
By using this coherence, the rendering algorithm can improve performance when the volume data are larger than the texture memory capacity by decreasing the amount of textures required.
