Topic: Color reversal film

Basics of Photography - Chapter 9
Color negative film and display film: the enlargement of a color negative film onto a display film produces a color transparency (suitable for large-format advertising displays or colored overhead sheets).
Color reversal film (slide film): the result is a color slide.
Color reversal film and color reversal paper: the result is a color print from a color slide (color reversal paper, incidentally, is also suitable as copying material for B/W slides).

Cross processing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If these bleached films are then re-exposed to light and re-processed in their original colour chemistry, subtle, relatively low contrast, pastel effects are obtained.
Color cross processed photographs are often characterized by unnatural colors and high contrast.
The results of cross processing differ from case to case, as the results are determined by many factors such as the make and type of the film used, the amount of light exposed onto the film and the chemical used to develop the film.

The reversal process for color emulsions
The color of the dye produced is complementary to the color sensitivity of the emulsion layer.
All substantive reversal films (those which contain couplers in the emulsion) are processed in essentially the same way: there are small variations between the individual processes but the main sequence is the same for all films.
Because color reversal films have three layers of emulsion instead of just one, they take a lot longer to dry than fl and white films, but do not be tempted to try to speed up the drying by using excessive heat; the film is very delicate and you can easily damage it.

Color couplers contained within the three emulsion layers react with the color developer to produce the yellow component in one layer, the magenta component in another layer, and the cyan component in the third layer.
A film knowingly underexposed by one f-stop (ie., exposed as if it were a faster film) can be rescued by increasing the time in the first development stage, e.g., from six to ten minutes (often referred to as "pushing one f-stop"); two f-stops underexposure requires developing an additional minute and a half ("pushing two f-stops").
Likewise, the color tones in the digital negative image can be lightened or darkened by software manipulation to produce the same type of contrast differences as produced in film processing by pushing the development in E-6 film processing of the positive image and pulling the development in the C-41 film processing of the negative image.

 Film Emporium
EASTMAN EKTACHROME Film (Tungsten) 7240 is a high-speed color reversal camera film intended for use in tungsten light and in daylight with an appropriate filter.
The film's primary application is color news photography, but you can also use it for nighttime sporting events, for industrial photography with existing light, and for high-speed photography both by daylight and by artificial light.
When processed as a reversal film, you can use the resulting positive for projection or for duplication; processed as a negative material by conventional methods, the film will yield satisfactory results, although with some loss in speed and an increase in granularity.

For 16mm: Reversal film is like slide film for a still camera--when it gets processed, you have a positive that can be projected.
If you are finishing to film, it is advisable to use negative film so that several prints can be made from the negative without making a dupe negative or internegative (which is costly).
Color reversal film tends to have high color saturation and somewhat less latitude (it can't capture as wide a range from dark to light), BandW reversal film is granier than negative, etc. See the Kodak catalog for descriptions.

Color reversal film (slide film) is the preferred film of most photographers who photograph anything other than portraits.
Color balance is easier using slide film as the slide itself serves as a guide to color.

Commonly referred to as color print film, this is the most commonly used, cheapest to purchase and process, and the most convenient.
For years, the universally accepted standard color reversal film was Kodachrome, most commonly 64 speed for action shots and 25 speed for roster photos.
Given Kodak's reluctance to improve its color slide technology, the sitiuation was ripe for a competitor-led revolt, which came from Fuji in the late 1980s.

Nikonians JRP FAQs - What film
Color negative film, for prints, is the most frequently used as it allows us to easily share copies with friends and relatives; also, it is very forgiving of errors in exposure, although it makes one a hostage of the printer technicians at the lab, their inconsistent training level and varying mood.
By eliminating the distraction of color, it forces us to really see a subject, compose and expose for the detail we want, whether in the highlights or in the shadows.
So here it is, a mix of my the most agreed upon as best films by many Nikonians, both professionals and outstanding amateurs, and my own personal choices, arranged by type and speed for 35 mm.

Unlike other 35 mm films, this film does not contain a light piping dye, so visible light may pipe into the roll via the leader or even through the light trap.
If the color of the dye in a particular layer bears no relationship to the color of the light to which the layer is sensitive, the relationship is not complementary and the resulting colors are false.
Since all three layers of this film are sensitive to blue radiation, you will need to use a yellow filter to eliminate the excessive blue light.
