The Colorado Railcar, a diesel locomotive that can pull up to two additional coaches, will visit the city April 14-15 as part of a whirlwind tour through eastern cities.
The technical term for the railcar is a diesel multiple unit, a self-propelled commuter rail passenger car that is capable of pulling additional coaches.

From the outside, Colorado Railcar is a nondescript, squarish warehouse (at center of frame, identified by the arrow.) It doesn't stand out like you'd expect the birthplace for some of the most luxurious railcars on the planet would.

A "lead" car (carrying 90 seated passengers) can be coupled to unpowered Railcars (at a small loss in acceleration compared to multi-powered-cars) and thus carry hundreds of passengers, at a fraction of the weight and cost of conventional U.S. diesel locomotives (typically 3,000 to 4,000 horsepower), Rader explains.
Cleverly, the Railcar system is designed to turn-off the prime mover engine when idling, then switch to a 100-110 kilowatt electric generator that not only provides hotel power but also keeps the main engine warm for low-emissions restart.

A judge in Colorado ruled Nov. 5 that Denver officials can enforce local gun ordinances that are stricter than either state or federal gun laws -- a decision that Colorado LP Legislative Director Richard Randall said could change the way the city treats other rights as well.
At issue was a state law passed in 2003 that sought to overturn a hodgepodge of ordinances that had been adopted by municipalities -- thereby bringing uniformity to gun regulations, according to Colorado LP officials.
"The Colorado Railcar that Capital Metro is considering for use in the commuter rail plan may be clean compared to other trains, but is still extremely dirty," he said.
