		The state, with an average elevation of 2,070 m (6,800 ft), is the highest of all the states.
		Colorado was admitted to statehood on August 1, 1876, during the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and today its official nickname is the Centennial State.
		Colorado became the 38th state to join the Union on August 1, 1876, and John L. Routt, the last territorial governor, was elected the first governor of the state of Colorado.

	Colorado State Patrol
		The Colorado State Patrol was established in 1935 as a division of the Colorado Department of Highways.
		The original Act specified that "it shall be their duty to promote safety, protect human life and preserve the highways of Colorado by the intelligent, courteous, and strict enforcement of the laws and regulation of this state relating to highways." Courtesy thus became the backbone of the Colorado State Patrol.

	Colorado Air Pollution Control Inventory and Support Unit
		Colorado State Law (Section 25-7-114.7 (2) (a) (I)), requires that every owner or operator of an air pollution source shall pay an annual fee as follows: $13.54 per ton of regulated criteria pollutants and $90.34 per ton of hazardous air pollutants and ozone depleting compounds.
		Regulation No. 2) states that personnel evaluating odors for compliance shall be selected using an "intensity-rating test." This testing is performed six times a year at the Division's "Odor School." Persons passing the test are certified for a one year period.
		Colorado Air Quality Control Commission Regulation No. 16 is designed to reduce particulate emissions by requiring reductions in application rates of street sanding materials by governmental agencies, increased usage of alternative liquid de-icing compounds, and improved and more frequent street sweeping.

	Colorado Governor Stephen McNichols
		Stephen Lucid Robert McNichols, Colorado's Democrat Governor from 1957 to 1963, was born in Denver on March 7, 1914.
		During his two terms he was instrumental in developing a plan for long-range highway development, a school district reorganization proposal, and a scheme to centralize public utility management.
