Colors of noise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The color names for these different types of sounds are derived from a loose analogy between the spectrum of frequencies of sound wave present in the sound (as shown in the blue diagrams) and the equivalent spectrum of light wave frequencies.
White noise is a signal (or process) with a flat frequency spectrum in linear space.
Orange noise is quasi-stationary noise with a finite power spectrum with a finite number of small bands of zero energy dispersed throughout a continuous spectrum.

 About Colored Noise
Noise is used to mean a lot of things in engineering, and is an extremely important concept, since a lot of the technical challenges in, say, building a cell phone system, or an ultrasound machine, come from trying to extract a desired information 'signal' from a background of unwanted 'noise'.
In general, 'noise' can refer to anything that interferes with what we want: it might be a single voice of someone sitting next to us in a movie, but the 'purest' form of noise comes from a totally random source.
In audio, the most common color encountered is 'pink noise': Realized as sound, white noise sounds like the hiss of an untuned FM radio, or the background noise on a cassette tape player.

Noise in Man-generated Images and Sound
Noise is present in all analog devices, but the digital domain is principally noise free.
Noise can be used to generate small irregular variations to surfaces of objects or to slightly distort textures used in 3D texture mapping to make the world look a bit like our own dirty, imperfect world.
Noise can be used to generate textures (imitating clouds, natural materials such as wood or stone) or to control the flow of particles used in 3D graphics [2].

 5. NOISE BARRIER MATERIALS AND SURFACE TREATMENTS
Transparent noise barriers come with their own unique set of engineering, safety, and environmental considerations which are significantly different than most other types of material normally used for noise barrier panels.
Color of these materials is most often obtained through the pigmentation of the emulsifiers used in the molding process of barrier elements (see Figure 127).
In addition to providing the desired color in a noise barrier, a concrete stain can provide a degree of protection against the elements as well as be reapplied to areas "tagged" with graffiti.

 Steven Backer's HW #5 - MUSIC 220A @ CCRMA
The PSD of white noise has a constant roll-off; that is, the slope of it's PSD remains constant as the PSD decreases across a linear range of frequencies.
Pink noise, on the other hand, is more natural to our ears, as it's PSD rolls off at a constant rate over frequencies heard on a logarithmic scale.
One popular method for generating 1/f noise is to filter white noise using a “pinking filter” characterized by having a filter gain that rolls of at 3-dB per octave in the frequency domain.

 Pink Noise (Spectra)
Unlike white noise, it bears a logarithmic characteristic, and, as such, represents a psychoacoustic equivalent of white noise sweetened for human ears.
Pink noise is especially appropriate for perceptual measurements, as well as useful in synthesis of audio control and sound.
It's based on the assumption that noise consists of a sum of several white noise processes that are filtered through first-order low-pass filters having time constants that are successively larger and larger.

The description analysis and reporting of flightseeing helicopter and fixed wing noise levels is made difficult by the complexity of human response to sound the myriad of noise metrics that have been developed for describing acoustic impacts.
Noise, often described as unwanted sound, is known to have several adverse effects on people.  From these known adverse effects of noise, criteria have been established to help protect the public health and safety and prevent disruption of certain human activities.
The meteorological data is an important element in the noise evaluation.  Outdoors sound levels decrease as a function of distance from the source, and as a result of wave divergence, atmospheric absorption, and ground attenuation.  If sound is radiated from a source in a homogeneous and undisturbed manner, the sound travels as spherical waves.

Scientists have demonstrated that most construction workers suffer substantial hearing loss, which probably is related to noise on the job, although there is not a federal noise standard for construction.
Examples of noise levels measured around construction equipment are 102-110 for a jackhammer, 88-102 for a portable saw, and 93-96 for a bulldozer.
But there can be dozens of pieces of equipment on a work site and the noise levels change, depending on what a machine is doing and how close a worker is to it.

Signal noise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In science, and especially in physics and telecommunication, noise is fluctuations in and the addition of external factors to the stream of target information (signal) being received at a detector.
In communications, it may be deliberate as for instance jamming of a radio or TV signal, but in most cases it is assumed to be merely undesired interference with intended operations.
In some cases a little noise may be considered advantageous, allowing a dithered representation of signals below the minimum strength, or between two quantization levels.

White noise has the same distribution of power for all frequencies, so there is the same amount of power between 0 and 500 Hz, 500 and 1,000 Hz or 20,000 and 20,500 Hz.
The most obvious use of pink noise is as an audio signal, to be used directly, to be filtered or to be used to modulate something.

The color information can be blurred without effecting the sharpness and detail of the image which is contained in the luminosity like a grayscale photograph.

Changing the color mode to any of the other options such as CMYK or Index, does permanently change the color information in the file.
