I collaged hundreds of fragments from my domestic tape archive to produce what is ultimately a very listenable and funky entertaining album, equally one to sip a martini at the end of the day and tap your foot to, or else to begin the day with the finest Scanner aerobic workout session," explains Scanner.
While the album title and such piece names as "Squirrelbrain" (in three parts) and "Days of War, Nights of Love" suggest a comedic if not frivolous attitude, the electronic music is serious and cinematic, Eno-esque and often eerie in its organic minimalism.
This album still seems far seeing and progressive though it was originally released on Rykodisc on 1994.

After listening to the horrific and unlistenable Colossus Of Destiny, I was almost skeptical to purchase this album, but after hearing a few songs I was convinced that it was classic Melvins.
As the album progresses, it gradually takes a slower pace, and the crushing heaviness that the album started with becomes more of a technical rush of acoustic guitar melting into slow, grinding guitars, layered with various strange effects.
The strongest track on this album is most definitely Backwards Marathon, which jumps straight into intensity only to break down into a mellow section in which their singer repeatedly states, "It's raining, it's raining", almost reminiscent of Tool and Porcupine Tree in their trippier moments.

After hearing the album Davis makes it extremely clear the mood he was trying to convey to us because thats what music is....a language and he definately says something with this album.
The album is famous partly for the way in which it combined modal harmonies (the use of scales rather than conventional chord sequences) with more traditional structures, giving the improvising soloist a greater range and freedom in his solos.

Not to be confused with the German death metal supergroup Masterplan, this Master Plan is a garage rock powerhouse headed by two of the leading lights of the old school New York garage scene, Andy Shernoff of the Dictators and Keith Streng of the Fleshtones.
Fans of those two bands already have an excellent idea of what 'Colossus of Destiny' sounds like: strippeddown, nofrills rock and roll is the order of the day, but without the Dictators' occasional feints towards heavy metal and the soul fixation of the Fleshtones.

Their sole album proper (excuse the pun), 1967's Without Reservations was presumably the cream of their current stage set, and correspondingly is of little interest to all but UK '60s soul fans, to be honest.
Both albums are reasonable progressive releases, with occasional inspired moments, although lacking the spark of the best Swedish bands of the '90s (and no, I'm not talking about The Flower Kings...).
Speaking of which, I was force-fed UK radio station Virgin Radio on a job I was on recently, and was exceedingly amused to be played, all in one day, the Stranglers' Golden Brown, The Chilis' Under The Bridge and There She Goes.

To be fair, the new Destiny's Child song that closes the album is pretty pallid, too, but proves Williams is stronger as one-third of a blockbuster than star of her own show.
