Sterling Fractal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The dark green and pink regions in the upper right are areas that are not part of the set, and traditionally is where much of the colour banding occurs.
However, the colour filters have added banding and sweeps in that range, adding interest to what would otherwise be a very boring segment of the image.
Programs like Fractint, which use the traditional iterative colouring methods, are much better utilised for understanding and learning about Fractals, whereas programs that have complex filters are better for producing beautiful pieces of art.

More about banding shorebirds - Environment Canada   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Shorebirds are usually marked with colour bands and/or coloured 'flags' (colour bands with a tab of varying length that sticks out from the leg).
For example, all shorebirds banded during spring migration 1990 at Little Quill Lake, Saskatchewan, were marked with a white flag over a metal band on the upper left leg, and a white flag over a red colour band on the upper right leg.
In the same area, birds captured during fall migration in 1990 were given a white flag over a metal band on the upper left leg, and a red or dark green colour band on the lower right leg.

There is only one record of a crane banded as young in 1989, that has been later (spring 1996) seen with their own young, thus we should wait for a larger sample to conclude about this parameter.
Colour banding has proved to be an excellent way to improve our knowledge of some aspects of crane ecology and behaviour, although certain life history parameters require larger sample sizes.
Colour banded cranes should be carefully observed, whenever possible, to check all familiar relationships, and specially a) if they are paired, and b) if they have any young.

Focus on snailspecies:Cepaea nemoralis and Cepaea hortensis
Colouring and banding Much study has gone into the colouring and banding of this species. It is generally believed that the colour depends on the habitat where the snails live.It is a form of adaptation which makes it harder for predators like the Song thrush to find the snail.
A study(Sheppard,1951)showed that in early spring snails with yellow coloured shells were caught more often than the darker coloured ones.
Because C.nemoralis has never more than 5 bands a formula has been made up to count the bands. The bands are counted from the apex of the shell downwards.A letter which stands for the colour of the shell starts the formula.Y for yellow,B for brown and R for red.

Banding often occurs in images that include finely graduated transitions from one color to another or on colour printers when a line of colour slightly overlaps the previous line.
The CMYK color model is an "additive" scheme, in which white (or blank) is defined as the abscence of all four source colors and all tones are created by adding the appropriate amounts of the necessary colors.
This problems is greatly reduced by inreasing the speed of the colour wheel and increasing the number of or colour segments, hence "7 segment, 5 speed" colour wheels.

But the use of such bands requires a suitable colour scheme agreed on by all countries forming a "flyway," the broad swath of territory often extending thousands of kilometres that wild birds use in the course of their annual cycle of migration.

There are two research projects involving banding and observation of birds currently being conducted in the Lakes National Park on or in the near vicinity of Rotamah Island and a third in the Lake Wellington Wetlands.
The first is a longstanding study over twenty years of the bush bird population of Rotamah while the second is a specific study into aspects of the breeding biology of the striated fieldwren which involves colour banding and nest observation.
The Lake Wellington Study involves site specific colour banding and monitoring of the bird populations of the fragmented habitat adjacent to the Western end of Lake Wellington and along the Latrobe River between Lake Wellington and Sale.

PASP Pan American Shorebird Program - Environment Canada   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Since few species of shorebirds are hunted in North America, the traditional method of marking birds with metal leg bands was not an efficient way for researchers to get reports on their birds from other areas and trace their migration routes.
For this reason, shorebirds are usually marked with colour bands and/or colour 'flags' (colour bands with a tab of varying length that sticks out from the leg) that can be easily seen from a distance.
Within each country, colour band combinations are also organized and assigned to specific banders.

Pocket PC Thoughts :: View topic - When Will We See More Than 16bit Colour?
Most computers have been at 24 bit colour or higher for the better part of a decade, so you may not remember what photos looked like in 16 bit colour...but I'm reminded of that every time I look at a photo or (especially) when I watch a video on the X50v.
The colour banding is most evident with video files, but it's noticeable with photos as well - especially ones with a solid colour wall.
The difference between 8 bit colour and 16 bit is certainly very dramatic, but 16 and 24 is not half as significant.

RGB color model - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This convention is so often used that some people have come to view it as universal.
This can be confusing because color values are also often considered to be in the range 0.0 through 1.0, rather than 0 to 255 (the latter range is used when colours are encoded in eight bits, which encoding permits 256 different values (sometimes written using two hexadecimal characters)).
If in doubt, it is best to describe the range over which a color is specified.
