In 575 Columba was persuaded to visit Ireland to mediate a dispute between the high king and the league of poets.

According to Adomnan, Columba came across a group of Picts who were burying a man killed by the monster, and saved a swimmer with the sign of the Cross and the imprecation "You will go no further", at which the beast fled terrified, to the amazement of the assembled Picts who glorified Columba's God.

It being detached from all other keys, furnished with rank herbaceous plants, cactuses, and low shrubs, and guarded by a thick hedge of mangroves, no place could be better adapted for breeding; and, at each visit we paid it, White-headed Pigeons were procured.
The principal difference between Pigeons and Doves, as to their habits, is, according to my observation, that the former generally build their nests close together on the same trees, which the latter never do.
In general the nest resembles that of the Columba migratoria, but it is more compact, and better lined.

 Lecture: Life Classification, Dr. Rodrigue
There are one or more species in a genus (e.g., our species, Homo sapiens, is the only current member of the Homo genus; the common street pigeon, Columba livia, is one of as many as 54 species in the Columba genus).
Every other taxon (level in the Linnaean hierarchy) is kind of subjective, depending a lot on the judgment of taxonomists who specialize in one group or another of organisms.
For example, the pigeon genus, Columba, variously includes 11-54 species, depending on whether a taxonomist is more of a splitter (more genera) or a lumper (put 'em all in the same box).
