Columbia Road Flower Market is one of many markets in Central London; a street flower market, it is located in East London.
Columbia Market was established in 1869 as a covered food market, by the philanthropist Angela Burdett-Coutts for 400 stalls; with flats above, in a tall Gothic building.
The market closed in 1886, after use as warehouses and small workshops, the original building was demolished in 1958.

In 1865 Romford Market's growth in importance as a livestock market and as a staging post for an increasing number of coaches between London and East Anglia was reflected by the number of pubs in a relatively small area.

The Columbia City Council yesterday finalized plans to ask residents to pay for millions of dollars in road and public safety improvements as well as an ice rink and a permanent multiuse facility slated for use as a farmers market.
Funding for the farmers market building is coupled with the ice rink in a question that asks voters to extend for two years the city’s eighth-cent sales tax for parks.
Speakers at the meeting described the farmers market plan as an educational, environmental and social boon for the city.
