The islands "Islas Columbretes" are situated 50 Km southeast of Oropesa / Castellon (70 Km north of Valencia).
The group is made of 4 small islands, from wich the biggest is La Isla Grande, La Ferrera, La Forada and at least El Bergantin.You will also find a lot of shallows and some stones, and all is vulcanic.
I was diving in a lot of diffrent places of the world and this group of islands is still one of the best for me. In 25 Years I have more then 2000 hours diving in the Islands and I still enyoi it every time.

The lizards from Pantelleria Islands, which were considered by BISCHOFF (1986) to be very similar to P. filfolensis from Malta on the basis of a superficial analysis of the coloration pattern, were shown to actually belong to P. sicula.
The populations of the two islands Columbrete Grande and Mancolibre are less differentiated than those of Foradad and Lobo, and seem to havre retained mainland haplotypes.
Some considerable irregularity occur in distribution patterns amongst the islands and there is an implication that the smaller islands of restricted area and biotope act as natural reserves to some species that otherwise are subjected to competition on larger islands.

This LIFE Project is a natural continuation of one of the actions of LIFE-NATURE project B4-3200/98/447 for the conservation of Island SPAs at Comunidad Valenciana, aiming at the introduction of Audouin’s Gull Larus audouinii through hacking at Benidorm Island.
Considering the success of this action it has been continued and exported to the Columbretes Islands owing to the vulnreability of its colony.
