Columbus Park is considered the masterpiece of Jens Jensen, now known as dean of Prairie-style landscape architecture.
Appointed as West Park Commission General Superintendent and Chief Landscape Architect in 1905, Jensen re-designed Humboldt, Garfield, and Douglas Parks and began creating small parks such as Eckhart and Dvorak.
In 1953, the nine acres at the park's southern boundary were destroyed to make way for the Eisenhower Expressway.

Knowing that Columbus held a strategic position on the Mississippi River, Polk ordered a fort to be built that would eventually hold 140 cannons.
He also ordered a chain and anchor (parts of which are currently on display at the park) stretched across the river to stop Yankee gunboats from coming down the river.
Polk, across the river at Columbus, felt surrounded by the North and dug in for a battle.

She was one of several female expatriate artists living in Rome at the time whom author Henry James dubbed “the white marmoreal flock.” The sister of Park Board President Henry Stebbins, she is best known for creating the bronze statue of the Angel of the Waters at the center of Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain.
Parks’s chief consulting architect Aymar Embury II (1880—1966) designed a new stylized limestone pedestal consisting of a fluted column on an octagonal base, and the statue was installed that year in Columbus Park (formerly Mulberry Bend Park) in Chinatown.

The City of Bexley, just east of downtown is demo-ing their current crap-wood park and upgrading to a cement bowl done by Velocity skateparks, a local park builder (more on them later.) I have seen the designs for the bowl and it'll be a good one for sure.

Park's parent, Quorum Health Group Inc. of Nashville, put new top administrators in place in September in hopes of getting the hospital in shape to be sold.

Stalled plans for upgrading West Side Christopher Columbus Park are gaining some momentum again after the Pima County Board of Supervisors heard from residents Tuesday and assured them the $1.95 million bond plan is still secure.
Upgrades for the park, 4600 N. Silverbell Road at El Camino del Cerro, have been the subject of many meetings by residents and sports enthusiasts, who last summer reached an agreement that playing fields for soccer and Little League should be built on 55 city acres outside the current park's boundaries.
Mike Dunn, a county resident who lives near the park, said he is a "soccer dad" who wants to see the new fields constructed so his children can play close to home.

I have been here about 2 years, and I run with the Team In Training group, and i have ran at all of the different metro parks in and around Columbus, and I have to say that there are a lot of good place to run in Coumbus.
Columbus has some great places to run and a great running store in Front Runner.
The park road is VERY steep, and it may be slick.
