The Pennsylvania and CH and D Railroads and the Dayton and Xenia Traction ran from west to east across the township.
Beavercreek Township is the cradle of Greene County, for it was the little log cabin built by Benjamin Whiteman, occupied by Peter Borders, a short distance south of the log mill of Owen Davis erected in 1798 on Beavercreek that the first meeting of the associate judges of Greene County met May 10, 1803.
New Germany in the northwest corner of the township was a settlement of farmers of German extraction.

In 1959, it inspired the citizens of Northampton County to rally for its preservation after it became known that the State Highway Department had plans to build a new concrete bridge in its place.
It became one of the first covered bridges to be recognized for preservation by a committee of enthusiasts, who in 1959 formed a State organization called "The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania", so named for the arched truss patented by Theodore Burr and used in the construction of this bridge.
Allen Township became the proud owner of this bridge on December 23, 1997.
