 Juggling Tricks
While some jugglers focus primarily on numbers juggling (juggling as many objects at once as possible) and stick to the standard patterns (the cascade for odd numbers and the fountain for even numbers), far more jugglers are interested in learning many different tricks and patterns.
Juggling columns (each prop has it's own vertical lane) while the arms continually cross and recross is called Mills Columns, or the Boston Mess.
While juggling 3 balls, one is always thrown under-the-arm by one hand and thrown from the outside ("over the top") with the other, so it loops around the rest of the pattern.

Why men (and octopuses) cannot juggle a four ball cascade
In order to capture the essence of a juggling pattern, we have to abstract away physical properties, such as size and speed of the balls, direction of the throws, etc. The only essential information is the order in which the hands throw the balls.
For a juggling pattern to be real, we want it to be impossible to divide its events into two or more groups, in such a way that these groups are not interconnected by sharing a hand or ball.
In the last theorem we saw that all juggling patterns where the periods of hands and balls are relatively prime are prime patterns, and thus are real patterns, which cannot be subdivided into separate independent patterns.

Columns (juggling) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Columns is a juggling trick where the balls are thrown upwards without any sideways motion.
Most involve the placement of the 'lone' ball: it may be to either side of the two balls, and can have its position in relation to them altered whilst juggling the pattern by throwing it not at a vertical angle, or moving the hand holding it when it has been caught.
The two balls being thrown and caught simultaneously may also be moved, for example crossing them over in the air, so that they do not land in the hand which threw them.

 Optimal Juggling
Throughout this paper the diagrams of juggling patterns have throw and catch positions labeled T and C. The path of the hand between these positions is represented by a dotted line; the exact path is unspecified.
Juggling is constrained by the spatial limits of the objects in the air.
Juggling the balls in a cascade, fountain or columns would all result in approximately the same height of pattern.

The high-tech Juggling Jukebox show... juggling SONGS
The juggling generally avoids the normal three-ball cascade and builds phrases based on other continous patterns like the shower, columns, or James Jay's own inventions.
The juggling consists of a collection of columns variations and the Boston Mess, and ends with chops.
The choice of orchestration, harmonic material, and arpeggiated textures that accompany the juggling was inspired by the vision of a revised opening tableau for Stravinsky's ballet Petrouchka, in which a juggler joins the organ grinder and tipsy merrymakers.

Now, as you would in the factory trick, as the fake ball gets to the top of its column, move it over to the right of the right-most column where it would normally be dropped.
This movement is one beat of the pattern, and should be kept in time with the 2 balls you are juggling in columns in the right hand.
While this movement is made, the two balls being juggled in columns in the right hand should have continued as normal and in time with the movements of the fake ball.

 Research in Juggling History
One way to simplify the juggling of many objects is what modern jugglers call "multiplexing." In multiplexing the props are caught individually as in ordinary toss juggling, but two or more props are gathered in a hand sequentially and then are all thrown at the same time.
It is also easier to bounce juggle (in which balls are bounced off the floor instead of thrown in the air) large numbers of balls than to toss juggle them, because the energy requirements are considerably lower, e.g., the first robot juggling machine bounce juggled (see [1]).
An old paper of mine, [6], discusses the tendency in illustrations to draw objects being juggled in a single arc over the jugglers head, while the juggler holds his arms far out to either side of his or her (usually his) body, and generally looks straight ahead instead of up at the pattern.

By the way, most jugglers who can do it will tell you that a 3 in one hand cascade is harder than a 3 in one hand shower, and they're probably right, but since I learned it first (about 14 years ago) I still find the cascade easier than a shower.

The conventional (but wrong) answer is that if he juggles the pins while crossing the bridge, at any given time he will be supporting only one pin (with the other two in the air), so his net weight should be only 252 + 6 = 258 pounds.
If we carefully match the weight variation to the juggling cycle so that the pins weigh only 2 pounds when the juggler catches a pin and throws it up, then his average weight while juggling will be only 258 pounds, the same as if he were juggling with three 2 pound pins.

Fountain (juggling) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The fountain is a juggling pattern that is often used for juggling an even number of objects.
The fountain can also be juggled in columns, where the balls all travel vertically up and down, and are caught from where they are thrown, or round in a circle, so that they are caught close to the body and thrown from either side of it (or vice-versa)
The fountain is used for juggling even numbers of objects because other patterns which alternate between hands (such as the cascade) do not work well for even numbers.
