  Kilsyth Community Council - The Colzium
The Edmonstones returned to their ancestral seat at Duntreath in the early 1930's and the near-derelict house was bought by the Lennox family who handed it over to the burgh of Kilsyth in 1937.
Colzium House was built by the Edmonstone family of Duntreath.
W Mackay Lennox bought the house in 1930 and in 1937, on his retiral as Town Clerk, he presented the House and its policies to Kilsyth Burgh, in memory of his mother.

Colzium House Museum is situated within the historic mansion house for the Colzium Lennox estate, to the east end of the town of Kilsyth.
Displays relate to the heritage of the surrounding area and include objects from the nearby castles of Colzium and Kilsyth as well as photographs and artefacts from the domestic and industrial settings of the locality.
The Colzium estate is rich in history and is open throughout the year.

The first building here was a large "L" shaped tower house built by the Livingstons of Callendar in the mid C15th to replace the ancient motte.
The family lost the estate due to their Jacobite sympathies, and it then became the property of the Edmonstone family.
There is an interesting ice house C. 1680 in the glen of the Colzium Burn which was excavated in 1977 and may still be viewed.

Colzium House is not normally open to the public, unless by prior appointment, but it can be booked for weddings, conferences and private parties.
Colzium House Museum is situated within the historic mansion house for the Colzium Lennox estate, to the east end of the town of Kilsyth on the A803 Stirling Road.
To the east of the estate are Banton Loch and the village of Banton, with its historic Swan Inn.

The trees are still without their leaves but the first of the many snowdrops at Colzium had burst into flower (see below).
The walled garden at Colzium is attractive at most times of the year but especially so in the spring when a huge number of snowdrops of different varieties come into flower.
There was only this one, delicate crocus in flower at Colzium last week, presumably an early-flowering variety as most of the crocus bulbs in the west of Scotland are only showing green leaves just now.

Colzium House was originally built in 1783 with a newer addition in 1861.
The photographer repeated the process for the bride and her family, mom and sisters all beaming with the same excitement that was so clearly evident in the face of the bride.
As the last of the photos were taken, the guests began to make their way to the new addition of Colzium House where one of the larger rooms had been set with chairs for guests and a small area open set for the lady justice and the bride and groom to carry out the ceremony.

Kilsyth holds an international carnival (popularly known as KIC)in mid-August - in 2006 this will be on Sunday August 13th.
It is held in the grounds of the wooded Colzium estate nearby.
Farmers markets are held on the first saturday of every month (January excepted).

What little remains of the 16th century Colzium Castle is now part of a cottage wall in Colzium Lennox Country Park, near Kilsyth.

A £4 MILLION scheme to redevelop Colzium House and Estate has been postponed, after North Lanarkshire Council failed to obtain cash from the European Regional Development Fund.
However, over half a million pounds will be still be spent on essential works at Colzium in the current financial year, and the council are to re-apply for European funding.
Lizanne McMurrich, head of community information and learning, told the Chronicle: "Colzium House and Estate is a valuable community asset in the North Lanarkshire area, and we are keen to progress its development as a high quality visitor attraction.

The Livingston's castle of Colzium had been demolished in 1703, and Sir Archibald built what his grandson described as "a modern house" close to the earlier site.
Duntreath was by then partly ruined and Colzium, for the next eighty years, became the family home.
The Colzium estate was broken up c.1920 and the house was sold by Sir Archibald Edmonstone, the 5th Bt.

 Kilsyth International Carnival 2004
KIC aims to be an eclectic festival for all the family with a mix of tradtional and international music, dance and costume bringing in musicians and performing artists from other parts of the world, creating a colourful fusion of Scottish, African and Latin forms of expression in the Carnival tradition.
Open from noon till dusk, there are two stages, a funfair, train rides, glen walks, waterfalls, craft stalls, beer tent, fairly basic public toilets, BBQ food, and free parking in Kilsyth town centre (1000 yards).

North Lanarkshire Council has asked the EU for cash to redevelop Colzium House in Kilsyth and Kilsyth town centre to boost economic development.
The council is bidding for more than £2million for Colzium, half the cost of a £4m plus scheme which the council wants to make Colzium into a major hub of recreation and tourist activity in the Kelvin Valley.
The plan is part of a wider regeneration strategy incorporating the Forth and Clyde Canal, Kilsyth town centre and the Antonine Wall.

The loch is reached from the canal and the route continues, firstly by turning north for about 800 m, to the A803, the Kilsyth to Falkirk Road.
On reaching the A803 turn left and follow this road for about 400 m, taking care here for it can be busy, then turn right into Colzium Country Park, the entrance of which is signposted.
On entering the park carry on along the road for another 400 m to Colzium House.
