The Simpsons' writers then started to use it for self-mockery by making the Comic Book Guy say it (because he's the type of guy that would be posting on Simpson fan bboards).
Proving that conclusively would be difficult, but I believe it does: I think the popularity shift upwards in "worst foo ever" was clearly influenced by Comic Book Guy's utterance, and that the "evar" variant appeared in writing as a response to that new proliferation.
