Comic Book Legal Defense Fund vs. Common Sense | Water Media   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-09)
The CBLDF claims that their mission is to fight against First Amendment infringements in the comic community.Yet, in their own words the CBLDF's programs have been more about spreading the word that censorship exists, then actually defending cases.
In many cases the CBLDF touts their influence (this includes 2 main stories on their website as of 10/24) but it is the law who reacts accordingly by reviewing the law, and dismissing the charges as unfounded.
If comics retailers would not be on the defensive and use common sense as their guide in planning their store, we'd all be better off.

Books: Give Them an Inch ... (Weekly Alibi . 09-08-98)
Since comic books have, for generations, been regarded as disposable juvenilia, it's easy for some to dismiss them as both art and literature--and, therefore, exempt them from any constitutional protection.
Strossen's extensively footnoted speech is a wonderful bit of rhetoric, giving a brief history of censorship of comic books and other media, explaining in no uncertain terms the basic constitutional principles that bar censorship of comic books and even mounting a lucid argument against industry self-censorship.
Finally, Miller (in a speech to a comic book retailers seminar) unleashes a frighteningly believable argument that the Comics Code Authority (the industry's self- censorship code, in effect since the 1950s) was created for the sole purpose of driving '50s industry giant EC Comics out of business.
