Comics anthology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Comics anthologies collect works in the medium of comics that are too short for stand-alone publication.
Anthologies are important to comics artists who work alone, rather than as part of a production team, because it typically will take a very long time for a single person to produce as full length comic book.
Anthologies are also often the first publication outlet for new comics artists.

 Anthology In The UK
The anthology format has been a fundamental part of the British comics industry from its very inception, and the ongoing contribution of such titles as the BEANO and 2000AD to the medium as a whole is immense.
An anthology represents perhaps the ultimate expression of collaborative endeavour in the comics industry, so it is pleasing to note that many creators making their first steps along the route toward professional comics creation today are involved with independent self-funded and self-published anthologies.
Anthology comics are a key part of comics' past; they also seem set to be the proving ground for much of comics' future.

That's a perfect metaphor, both for this book and comics in general, offering what amounts to a conversational template, a way to see how all these aesthetics interrelate.
Brunetti uses the image of a human lifespan; "this, in my opinion, is where comics are today: the equivalent of an adult of about thirty-five years." That's a pretty fair assessment, and it's borne out by the material in these pages, which moves between gags and narrative, the simple and the sublime.

After reading several mini comics, he decided that it was something he could do, even with his meager skills.

While it took more than a century for the medium to be accepted as suitable for adults, the fact that the comics made it here at all testifies to their resilience and adaptability.
He suggests instead that by creating an anthology of work that Brunetti finds personally important, he has created an anthology that speaks better to the artistic potential of the medium than others have in the past.
Hajdu’s thesis is that Brunetti’s anthology is a little like the “From Spirituals to Swing” concert in Carnegie Hall (1938) in that they both use a high-culture establishment venue (Carnegie Hall/Yale University Press) to show off what had hitherto been seen as a largely low culture art form (jazz/comics).
