		The road linking Matlab upazila of Chandpur district with Gouripur under Daudkandi upazila in Comilla district, the Bagur-Dabid-war road and Pannauarpolp-Bakhrabad road under Dabidwar upazila have not been widened.
		The farmers of the district, who till their land and transplant seedlings using power pumps for irrigation depended on rainfall but there was no rainfall and consequently IRRI-Boro seedlings on a vast area of land grew yellow and may die shortly.

		The three cropping seasons are boro, an irrigated, dry-season crop that is transplanted in February; aus, a rainfed crop that is direct-seeded or transplanted in the pre-monsoon period; and aman, the most widely planted season, in which rice is transplanted (T. aman) at the onset of the monsoon in July.
		The district has long been recognized as progressive, planting modern rice cultivars for the entire boro crop, 80% of the T. aman crop and 55% of the aus crop.
		In each farmer's field one portion was left unweeded, and another portion was maintained weed-free (by researchers weeding at 21, 35 and 48 days after transplanting in addition to weeding completed by the farmer).

		In the Comilla and Rajshahi districts of Bangladesh, farmers' know their weeds - their local names, how and where they grow, and how difficult they are to control.
		One difference between districts is probably farmer knowledge, as farmers in Comilla have enjoyed longer exposure to technology associated with modern rice cultivars, including the optimum time for first weeding.
		It would reduce fodder supplies for livestock, particularly in Comilla District, where many farmers feed their cattle (primarily milk cows) weeds from their own and others' fields.
