The municipality of Comines-Warneton includes Comines (Dutch: Komen), (Comines-)Ten-brielen, Warneton(Dutch: Waasten), Bas-Warneton(Dutch: Neer-Waasten), Ploegsteert and Le Bizet.
The name "Comines" is believed to have a Celtic, or Gaulish, origin.

Comines Warneton is a French-speaking Wallonian commune of 18,000 that's isolated from the rest of [wallonia] -- when leaving Comines-Warneton, you have to go through the Flemish communes of Wervik and Menen before you reach the Wallonian town of Mouscron.
The Leie River (Lys) flows along the southern edge of Comines Warneton, forming the border with France.
Bas-Warneton, Bizet, Houthem, Komen, Neerwaasten, Ploegsteert, Waasten, and Warneton are boroughs within the municipal district of Comines-Warneton.

 About Comines-Warneton
The name Comines, and the Flemish equivalent Komen by which the town is also known, are thought to be of Celtic origin.
In the twentieth century, Comines was close to the battlefields of the First World War, and the inhabitants of Ploegsteert are proud that Winston Churchill was stationed there.
The Lords of Warneton are known to have set up a chapter of canons in Ypres (Ieper) some eight miles to the north about the time of the Norman Conquest.
