Commandry, (British English) or commandery (American English), was the smallest division of the European landed estate or manor under the control of a commendator, or commander, of an order of knights.
Originally commandries only existed for the Order of Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, but later also for the Order of Teutonic Knights[?] and other orders.
Commandry (郡 in pinyin: jùn) had been an administrative level of China.

This keep was used to hold a number of Knights Templar prisoner, including Grandmaster Jacques De Molay, prisoner in 1307.
The Templars assisted pilgrims to the holy land by erecting a series of "commandries" along the route.
A pilgrim could deposit money at any one of them, gaining a letter of credit that could be used to withdraw money elsewhere along the route, reducing the risk of robbery.

Papius inherited several key texts by John Bar Zabardees, including expanded portions of Revelations and further descriptions by St Michael of the altar ritual outlined in that text.
Texts were also taken from Occitanian Templar Commandries in Arles, Orange, Narbonne, Perieis (just north of Beziers, when Papal forces searching for more texts massacred so called "Cathar" supporters on Mary Magdalene's Feast Day, in her beautiful Temple high above le Rive Orb).
It was an important Commandry and sailing point for knights Templars, so in the 18th and 19th century "Chevaliers du Temple Grand Orient" enlisted old Marseilles families whose pedigrees and coats of arms documented a long association with these ideas.

Columbia Commandry #2 formed part of the honor guard that escorted the remains of President Garfield as they laid in state in the Capitol, September 21-22, 1881.
These Knights, out of respect for their fallen Brother, escorted the casket from Washington D.C. to Cleveland, Ohio and the officers of the Grand Commandry of Ohio were present and participated in the funeral services on September 26th, 1881.
addition, fourteen Commandries from that State and eight Commandries from neighboring jurisdictions completed the funeral cortege.
