Banks in Sri Lanka are required to maintain a minimum total risk-weighted capital ratio of 8%, where Tier 1 capital must be at least 50% of minimum capital requirements.

The IFC's acquisition of 5.85 million Commercial Bank shares, an investment of Rs 965.25 million at Rs 165 per share, follows a decision by the Government to divest up to 20 percent of Commercial Bank shares from the 29.92 percent stake currently held by the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd., (SLIC).

Foreign banks operating in India have no branches in rural areas, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
In the past three years, one foreign bank, Antwerp Diamond Bank of Belgium, and two private banks, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Yes Bank, have started their operations in Maharashtra, he said.
These are Common Wealth Bank of Australia, Commercial Bank of Ceylon, UBS AG Switzerland, Mizuho Corporate Bank of Japan and DBS Bank of Singapore, Chidambaram said.
