  123VOYAGE South West France: Comminges
Comminges was not truly annexed by France until 1540.
The town of Saint Gaudens replaced Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges as the main town in the area in the 17th century and in general the area was controlled from Auch (Gascony) and is now in the departement of Haute-Garonne, capital Toulouse.
Comminges rests in and around the valley of the Garonne, with spectacular mountain ranges to the South.

Couserans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1180, the viscounty of Couserans was created and given to Roger of Comminges, brother of Count Bernard IV of Comminges, thus separating Couserans from Comminges, and reverting to the Roman situation when there was a Civitas Consorannorum (Couserans) distinct from the Civitas Convenarum (Comminges).
When French départements were created in 1790, Couserans could have joined with Comminges to form a département, as history and geography suggested, but Saint-Girons and Saint-Gaudens (the largest town of Comminges) could not agree on which town would be the préfecture (capital).
At the initiative of a representative of Pamiers (largest town in the County of Foix), Couserans was joined with the province of County of Foix to form the Ariège département.

Grand Prix du Comminges - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Grand Prix du Comminges was an automobile race held in France.
The race was named after the Comminges, one of the former Provinces of France in ancient Gascony in what is now the Haute-Garonne department of the Midi-Pyrénées region of France.
After World War II, the creation of Formula 1 saw the Grand Prix du Comminges modified to a Formula 2 event but, with the top drivers no longer competing, economics dictated cancellation after the 1952 race.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Toulouse
Toulouse, chief town of the Tectosagi, at the end of the second century B.C. tried to shake off the yoke of Rome during the invasion of the Cimbri, but at the beginning of the empire it was a prosperous Roman civitas with famous schools in which the three brothers of the Emperor Constantine were pupils.
The first archbishop was Raymond de Comminges, Bishop of Maguelonne from 1309, who, when created cardinal in 1327, abandoned the See of Toulouse and went to Avignon where he died in 1348.
The earliest Bishop of Comminges we know of is Suavis, who assisted at the Council of Agde in 506; but Sidonius Apollinaris speaks of the persecutions suffered at the hands of the Arian Goths in the fifth century by the bishops of Comminges.
