Common Wealth Party - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Common Wealth Party was a socialist political group active in the United Kingdom in the Second World War.
Common Wealth was founded in 1941 by a combination of members of the Labour Party's 1941 Committee who disagreed with the electoral pact, former Liberals who believed that party had no direction, and independents.
During the war, the party won three by-elections against the Conservatives, in Eddisbury, Skipton and Chelmsford, but held only Chelmsford in the 1945 UK general election.

The Land Lords who now claim the land as their private property deny the equal right to life of the landless and, by compelling these to pay rent, actually charge them for permission to live.
The C.L.P. propose that a Declaration of Common Right to the Land shall be made in the House of Commons, after which the whole of the land shall be deemed as from an appointed date to be restored to the people.
By collecting the rent of land whether used or held idle, and using the Land-Rent to pay for public services every citizen would pay for the land he desired to use, and would get his equal share of the value of the land returned to him in those services.

I was introduced to the concept of land value tax (LVT) gradually, through the patient efforts of Dan Sullivan, while we both worked with many other freedom lovers to develop the Libertarian Party of Pittsburgh during the period from 1992 to the present.
Throughout history, classical liberals have viewed land the same way you and I view atmospheric oxygen; it's Nature's (or God's) gift to all humanity, and people who'd attempt to grab it all not to use for themselves but in order to charge others for access to it, would be guilty of the grandest theft.
Just as all people are entitled to the oxygen they're using so long as their use does not infringe on the equal rights of everyone else, so are all people entitled to the land they're actually using, so long as that claim doesn't infringe on anyone else's equal right to the use of land.

Although the Liberal Party was faithful to LVT until the merger with the SDP (the ‘continuing Liberal Party’ still is), most of those who joined it after about 1960 had little or no knowledge of the policy and had never been taught classical land economics at school or university.
The entire LVT yield from land being redeveloped in a large area of dockland, which is being linked by the metro to the city centre, has been hypothecated to the joint venture company formed by the two cities affected and their developer partner.

The Commonwealth Party is a party that favors limited government, regional/local autonomy and opposes government oppressions such as: over taxation, prohibition drug policy, overregulation in business, government waste and mismanagement, the policies of the welfare state and the over use of government.
Though they act as the defender of the common citizen, they themselves are more involved in questionable business deals, fraud, racial injustice, impoverishing the masses and tyranny over the individual all through government immunity.
The Commonwealth Party though entertains the secession of any or all of the current 50 states should it come to a head -- that is all of America should secede from 'itself' and reconfigure into the Commonwealth.

Land, however, is not the fruit of anyone's labor, and our system of land tenure is based not on labor, but on decrees of privilege issued from the state, called titles.
The land of England, while by no means nearly all actually occupied, was all legally occupied; and this State-created monopoly enabled landlords to satisfy their needs and desires with little exertion or none, but it also removed the land from competition with industry in the labor market, thus creating a huge, constant and exigent labour-surplus.

 THE COMMUNIST MANIFESTO
The proletarian is without property; his relation to his wife and children has no longer anything in common with the bourgeois family relations; modern industry labor, modern subjection to capital, the same in England as in France, in America as in Germany, has stripped him of every trace of national character.
Bourgeois marriage is, in reality, a system of wives in common and thus, at the most, what the Communists might possibly be reproached with is that they desire to introduce, in substitution for a hypocritically concealed, an openly legalized system of free love.
Step by step, the small and middle land ownership of the farmers, the basis of the whole political constitution, is succumbing to the competition of giant farms; at the same time, a mass industrial proletariat and a fabulous concentration of capital funds are developing for the first time in the industrial regions.
