Triploid Grass Carp in New York Ponds
Grass carp lack the barbels and spiny dorsal and anal fin rays characteristic of goldfish and common carp, bearing a closer resemblance to a large creek chub or common shiner.
Although grass carp are related to both common carp and goldfish, distinct differences exist both in appearance and feeding habits.
Due to various factors that impact triploid grass carp feeding, it is impossible to precisely predict the exact number of fish to stock to achieve the 20-30% plant coverage target.

Common carp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Common Carp or European Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a widespread freshwater fish distantly related to the common goldfish, which it is capable of interbreeding with.
Although they are very tolerant of most conditions, the Common Carp prefer large bodies of water with slow or standing water and soft, vegetative sediments.
In Australia there is enormous anecdotal evidence and mounting scientific evidence that introduced Carp are the cause of permanent turbidity and loss of submergent vegetation in the Murray-Darling river system, with severe consequences for river ecosystems, water quality and native fish species.
