  Law Reports and Court Records
To locate a judgment it is necessary to obtain the title of the law report in which it is published.
Law reports are usually referred to by year (in brackets), volume number, title abbreviation and first page eg the Mabo decision of the High Court published in Australian law reports is cited as (1992) 107 A.L.R. The indexes cited in the table above have conversion tables for their country's abbreviations.
Most court judgments, ie the judges' reasons for their decisions, are not published in the printed law reports and remain unpublished.

The early reporters were unofficial as they were published solely by private entrepreneurs, but in the middle of the 19th century, the U.S. Supreme Court and many state supreme courts began publishing their own official reporters.
The Commonwealth Law Reports are the authorised reports of the High Court of Australia.
Reporters usually come in the form of sturdy hardcover books with most of the design elements on the spine (the part that a lawyer would be most interested in when searching for a case).

The Reports are issued in monthly parts, paged in different series, by courts, to be bound into separate volumes at the end of the year of publication.
Despite recognition of the need for an official edition of English statute law as early as the mid-1500’s, it was not until 1800 when a Select Committee of the House of Commons reported such a need that a Record Commission was appointed and this edition resulted.
The reports have a high reputation and may be cited and relied on in court.

Ministers recalled that the Law Officers of Small Commonwealth Jurisdictions had in 1995 expressed their concern that a number of small countries had not enacted legislation to implement the Harare Scheme on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters because they were concerned over the potential implications of such legislation on their human and financial resources.
The Secretariat was asked to report to the next meeting of Ministers on the operation of the Scheme and the Guidelines and Senior Officials were directed to co-operate with the Secretariat to ensure that the views and experiences of all member countries were reflected in that report.

Law reports are arranged by country of jurisdiction, then alphabetically by title.
We do stock some pre-1865 English law reports (e.g Aspinall's reports of maritime law cases, 1870-1940 and Durnford and East's reports, 1785-1800.) If we do not have the original series it is worth checking English Reports which reprints a wealth of older cases.
References to law reports are always in an abbreviated form.

 Fair Credit Reporting Act
A consumer reporting agency may not prohibit a user of a consumer report furnished by the agency on a consumer from disclosing the contents of the report to the consumer, if adverse action against the consumer has been taken by the user based in whole or in part on the report.
The consumer reporting agency shall promptly provide to the person who provided the information in dispute all relevant information regarding the dispute that is received by the agency from the consumer after the period referred to in subparagraph (A) and before the end of the period referred to in paragraph (1)(A).
A consumer reporting agency shall provide written notice to a consumer of the results of a reinvestigation under this subsection not later than 5 business days after the completion of the reinvestigation, by mail or, if authorized by the consumer for that purpose, by other means available to the agency.
