Brazil had been inhabited for at least 10,000 years by semi-nomadic populations when the first Portuguese explorers, led by Pedro Álvares Cabral disembarked in 1500.
Brazil and its 26 states and Federal District are divided by IBGE into 5 distinctive regions: North, Northeast, Center-West, Southeast and South (Division by Regions).
Brazil is characterized by the extensive low-lying Amazon Rainforest in the north, and a more open terrain of hills and (low) mountains to the south, home to most of Brazil's population and its agricultural base.

Brazil is the only Portuguese-speaking nation in the Americas, giving it a distinct national culture separate from its Spanish-speaking neighbors.

Brasilia, Brazil - With the recent certification of over 550,000 ha of native forest according to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards, Brazil has surpassed Bolivia to have the largest area of FSC-certified Amazon native forests in South America.
WWF-Brazil is currently carrying out several community management certification projects in both the Southwestern Amazonian Moist Forests Ecoregion and in the Amazon River and Flooded Forests Ecoregion.
The newly FSC-certified Amazon native forests in Brazil are: 545,535 ha belonging to Orsa Florestal (Jari Group) in the state of Pará; 4,923 ha belonging to Agroflorestal Vale do Guaporé in the state of Rondonia; and the expansion of the Cikel Brasil Verde certified area to 248,899 ha in the state of Pará.

This is the earliest photo relating to the use of a “communication device” by Brazilian troops, taken during the Paraguayan war of 1864-1870.
Up to the end World War II the main communication device available for the company/battalion commander here was the stick rocket, like the ones used in World War I. Brazilian troops fighting in Italy were equipped like a normal US infantry division, though.
It has a reasonable collection of electronic communication devices and I intended to mount an exhibition with them, but it is hard to get money for this (they are not weapons and the museum is a weaponry museum).
