Zambia is a member of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Commonwealth, the African Union, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), which is headquartered in Lusaka.
Zambia was the first African state to cooperate with the International Tribunal investigation of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
Zambia was active in the Congolese peace effort after the signing of a cease-fire agreement in Lusaka in July and August 1999, although activity diminished considerably after the Joint Military Commission tasked with implementing the ceasefire relocated to Kinshasa in September 2001.

Zambia was one of the few countries in Southern Africa that received adequate rains, and was able to provide small-scale farmers with seeds and fertilizer on time for the planting season.
Despite localized food insecurity in the south of the country, Zambia sold about 120,000 MT of maize last year, a substantial portion of which was supplied to Zimbabwe through the World Food Programme (WFP), Sikatana said.
Zambia produced 1.2 million MT of maize during the 2002/03 farming season - double the tonnage of the previous year.

Napoleon made this call at the head office of the National Union of Communications Workers (NUCW), in Ndola, Zambia where he was informed that the Zambia Telecommunications Corporation (ZAMTEL) had suspended some workers who attended a union meeting to discuss the wage freeze and the Pay-As-you-earn tax increase.
Meanwhile, the Zambia National Commercial Bank in Choma has also suspended 11 workers for temporarily withdrawing their labour during the anti-wage freeze demonstration.
The affected workers are all members of the Zambia Union of financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW), an of affiliate UNI.

 Vodacom gets Zambia's 4th cell licence
Zambia's three existing cellular operators are state telecommunications utility Zamte, and privately owned Celtel and Telecel.
Vodacom was the sole bidder for the licence and the Communications Authority evaluated its bid for a month.
The Communications Authority argued that Zambia required a fourth national mobile licence because existing operators were reluctant to reach rural areas.

In its notice of appeal Communications Authority stated that the Judge erred in law and fact by ordering that Mr Kashita who had discontinued his own actions against the company was entitled to costs.
