Isle of Man International Broadcasting Plc ("IMIB") is an Isle of Man company, formed in June 1994 to promote the allocation of a long wave radio frequency to the Isle of Man and to bid for and operate the commercial radio station on that frequency.
On March 29th, 1999, the Isle of Man Communications Commission announced that it intends to award a licence to IMIB and this decision was approved by the Isle of Man Government in the Court of Tynwald on 21st April.
The Isle of Man Government continued to request permission to increase power, especially after the UK licensed local commercial radio in the early 1970s, but this time the excuse was to be "Manx Radio would steal all the new stations' listeners in England".
