 Red - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The identification of Communism with "Socialist" red (with the red flag being the primary color of the flag of the Soviet Union) and the red star being a Communist emblem led to such Cold War phrases as "the Red Menace" and "Red China" (distinguished from Nationalist China, "Free China," or Taiwan).
The color was also associated with political vehicles such as the Red Guard in China and the Red Guards during the Russian Revolution of 1917 as well as with left wing paramilitary groups such as the Red Army Faction in Germany and the Japanese Red Army.

In 1989, four parties, the Italian CP; the United Left of Spain, the SPP of Denmark and Synaspismos of Greece decided to form a Group called the European United Left (GUE, Gauche Unitaire Européen).
This alliance, enlarged to include other parties, was established as a political group at the beginning of the fourth parliamentary term in 1994 under the name Confeferal Group of the European United Left (GUE).

Communist Party of Portugal (Marxist-Leninist) (in Portuguese: Partido Comunista de Portugal (Marxista-Leninista)) was a political party in Portugal led by its general secretary Heduíno Vilar (real name Eduíno Gomes), formed after his expulsion from the main Communist Party of Portugal (Marxist-Leninist) in May 1974.
PCP(M-L) claimed that after the Carnation Revolution, the main threat to Portugal came from social fascism (represented through PCP leader Alvaro Cunhal) and Soviet social imperialism.
Vilar's party had close relations to the Communist Party of China.
