In fact, given its reliance on turboprops, CommutAir may be part of the solution to the high costs of fuel consumption experienced by regional jets, especially the 50-seaters, which have been losing money since the run up in fuel costs began.

CommutAir's proposal represents the first time in years a firm has bid on any airport services in a significant way, a move seen as stimulating demand by increasing services and lowering prices.
The airport's O'Donnell said having CommutAir as a major commuter airline and as fixed-based operator at the airport pushes the airport to hub status.

With plans to drop Essential Air Service routes at Rutland, Vt., Saranac Lake as well as its Plattsburgh, N.Y. base, CommutAir is restructuring its network away from the Northeast toward building its Cleveland hub operation as a Continental Connection.
Dropping the routes is easier said than done, but filing to eliminate the EAS points at least triggers a rate renegotiation with the Department of Transportation as the department holds CommutAir in.
CommutAir is slowly ridding itself of its Beech 1900s, including those used for the Burlington, Buffalo and White Plains service and taking on Bombardier (BBD) Q200s subleased from Horizon.

CommutAir seems to like the fact that the gouge is out here however, they will hold you to this knowledge during your interview (in other words, no excuses for not being prepared).
All in all, I would reccomend other pilots to try and interview with CommutAir (although, it is not easy to do without an internal letter, I believe I was the only candidate without one), while they are not the biggest or fly jets, the time you spend there would be a good time.
Commutair knows that they are a training ground for the majors.

January 24, 2008 - Flight Attendants at CommutAir, a regional air carrier headquartered in New York and serving 24 cities in eight states, voted overwhelmingly for IAM representation in an NMB-supervised election.
The near-unanimous vote of 28-1 was announced following a count at NMB headquarters in Washington D.C. The organizing victory at the Continental Connection carrier brings representation rights to all 47 Flight Attendants at CommutAir, who approached the IAM with concerns about wages, benefits and working conditions.
The newly organized group is expected to double in size with the addition of a large group of new hires currently in training.

I have been told in the past (by their employees) that CommutAir's contract locks them out of EWR.
When theres plenty of room, its nice to have the extra feed, but if things are crowded, its a waste of resources to have a B1900 flight.
Commutair was a US Airways Express carrier before, in fact half of thier planes still wear the basic US Airways livery with Continental Connection titles.
