Legislative elections were held in the Union of the Comoros on April 18 and April 25, 2004.
There is only one national political party in the Comoros, the Convention for the Renewal of the Comoros (Convention pour le Renouveau des Comores, CRC) of President Azali, which favours more centralised government.
At these elections the CRC was opposed by a loose coalition called the Camp of the Autonomous Islands (Camp des Îles Autonomes), which is not a formal party but a coalition of opposition groups organised by the presidents of the three federated islands and opposed to President Azali.

JOHANNESBURG, 15 Mar 2004 (IRIN) - An unexpected power cut in the Comoros at the weekend has delayed the release of results in the first round of legislative polls in the Comoros, a senior official told IRIN on Monday.
The legislative polls, delayed for more than a year by the controversy over constitutional powers, are the last step in a process of regionally mediated national reconciliation that will unite the islands in a federal system.
Elections for the federal parliament are scheduled to take place on 18 April and 25 April.
