  Encyclopedia - MSN Encarta
Encyclopedias can encompass many areas of interest, or they can focus on a particular field of study, such as a geographic area, an ethnic group, a time period, or an academic discipline.
Although Greek philosopher Aristotle is sometimes referred to as the “father of encyclopedias” because of the wide range of subjects in his works and his attempts to summarize existing knowledge, the first encyclopedia is said to have been compiled in the 4th century bc by Greek philosopher Speusippus, a disciple of Greek philosopher Plato.
The topics treated in its 37 books and 2,493 chapters include mathematical and physical descriptions of the world; anthropology and human physiology; botany, including agriculture, forestry, and horticulture; zoology; and mineralogy, together with the use of metals and precious stones in the arts.

 Algorithm
Generally, an algorithm is a systematic list of instructions for accomplishing some task, and the task can be anything that has a recognizable end-point (or result).
Algorithms are essential to the way computers process information, because a computer program is essentially an algorithm that tells the computer what specific steps to perform, in what specific order, to carry out a specific task, such as calculating the employees' paychecks or printing the students' report cards.
Instructions are usually assumed to be listed explicitly, and are described as starting 'from the top' and going 'down to the bottom', an idea that can be discussed more formally in terms of flow of control.

Besides, on the homepage, so far, the topics are names of fields of study (and sometimes fields of study that are also names of the subjects they study).
