  U.S. Army’s first all-composite, armor-ready truck cab - gizmag Article
TPI’s lightweight, all-composite cab allows soldiers to carry more protective armor, ammunition, and equipment because it weighs hundreds of pounds less than cabs constructed with conventional materials.
TPI collaborated on this project with Oshkosh Truck Corporation, maker of the HEMTT truck, and the University of Delaware’s Center for Composite Materials.
“The composite cab by TPI has provided a solution, that up until recently, was not available on a tactical wheeled vehicle platform,” said John Stoddart, executive vice-president, and president Oshkosh Truck defense.

Composite armour - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Composite armour is a type of vehicle armour consisting of layers of different material such as metals, plastics, ceramics or air.
Most composite armours are lighter than their all-metal equivalent, but instead occupy a larger volume for the same resistance to penetration.
Chobham-type armor is currently in its third generation and is used on modern western tanks such as the British Challenger 2E and the American M1A2 SEP Abrams.

Reactive Armor, Explosive, Shaped Charge, Rockets, Missiles, RANK Enterprises
This armor is useful for lightly armored vehicles and in situations where a minimal amount of explosives and protection against both shaped charges and normal kinetic armor piercing projectiles is important.
This armor has an excellent multihit capability, due to the small explosive module sizes and is very efficient in defeating both shaped charges and kinetic projectiles.
Armor suits for specific vehicles are designed so that the explosive holding modules can be removed and attached easily, thus leaving the vehicle with some kinetic protection even when the explosive package is not installed.

Advanced Armour Concepts for Light Vehicles
Composite armor uses various materials different hardness and elasticity, heat and shock absorbing materials, layered and sandwiched together, to provide improved protection against specific threats, such as multiple-hits of Kinetic Energy (KE), and Chemical Enegry (CE) ammunition.
Composite passive armor is designed to absorb the energy of the impact, and prevent penetration and internal damage by the penetrating projectile or its residual effects.
Composite armor is usually provided in modules or tiles, which are composed of a mosaic of hard (ceramic) materials, soft but strong (composite fibers) embedded in concrete matrixes.

Be it a wooden shield or the modern composite armor of a main battle tank, armors main purpose is to defeat the destructive effects of the oppositions weapon systems.
However, armor is a trade off, as armor is added weight increases and this degrades mobility, which in itself can be a substantial defense.
Although the exact composition of most composite armor is classified, it is basically a sandwich of steel and depleated uranium plates, ceramics, and plastic honeycomb.

NDM Article - Truck Armor Kits Could Be Improved, Says Army Tester
While the Army continues to apply steel armor to thousands of trucks, it also intends to seek new protective technologies that, if successful, could be adapted against future threats.
Although the preponderance of the armor kits in Iraq are old-fashioned steel, some vehicles have ceramic composite armor.
Ceramic composites generally are not produced in large quantities as metals can be, he said, but the weight advantage can be huge, especially with Humvees.

 Primitive Armor and Weapons
Primitive armors are types of armors used before the development of the current armor used on tanks, and Battlemechs today.
Steel armor is the first armor used on tanks back when they where first invented in the early twentieth century and was used on some vehicles into the twenty-first century.
While these primitive armor's have not been used in the Inner Sphere or nearby Periphery for centuries, in the deep periphery where high technology can be rare, they are still in use.

Armor kits are being produced in record quantities for a variety of military vehicles.
Armor designers use the difficult wetout aspect of Spectra and Dyneema fibers, for example, to create "starved" laminates with lower resin content, so that they form semi-compatible bonds that convert the impact energy into fiber stretching and elongation.
In contrast, a glass composite, with its tenacious fiber/resin bond, is typically made in a tight laminate that tends to handle impact energy by delaminating.

Composite armor has tremendously high HAM costs, so high, in fact, that very few characters can wear it unsliced without engaging in heavy stat migration.
Functioning as a first level of defense, the PSG absorbs 55 points of damage (50 points because it is light armor plus another 10% of the remainder due to the kinetic resist), passing 45 points of damage on to the armor.
Finally, Joe's armor has a high resistance to kinetic attacks (70%, the fact that it is called a "special protection" is irrelevent) and Bob's attack is kinetic, so Joe's armor blocks 70% of the remaining damage, resulting in Joe suffereing 7 points of damage.

Armor has three encumbrance values that are of importance.
Option #1 - Stat migration to wear armor, buffs to regain stats - In this scenario you would migrate your stats to were your secondary stats were all just high enough to wear all the armor.
The disdavantage is if you run out of buffs, at best you have to keep the armor on, at worst you can not put it back on until you get another batch of buffs.

Wearing armor will give you an armor rating of light and in so doing will decrease the damage that you take from those elements that the armor is not vulnerable to by 50% right off the bat.

If the armor is hitting your secondary HAM attributes and increasing the time it takes for your stats to regenerate then do the obvious and remove the armor when you are resting.
