The Computer Go Ladder is an informal competition between computer Go programs for the principal purpose of having fun.
Challenges and results involving the top programs on each ladder are also announced on the computer go mailing list.
Gnu Go (a ladder participant) is available for download for a variety of platforms and runs on NNGS as well.

Go ratings for amateurs are on a scale that starts around 25 Kyu for beginners, goes to 1 kyu, then 1 dan, then 6 dan or so for the strongest players.
Go programs are hard to rate accurately, since they each have areas of strength, and other areas of weakness compared to people.
Go simulator was a version of the first release of The Many Faces of Go, released in Europe with a 3 language manual and box.
