Computed tomography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Computed tomography (CT), originally known as computed axial tomography (CAT) and body section roentgenography, is a medical imaging method employing tomography where digital processing is used to generate a three-dimensional image of the internals of an object from a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation.
The word "tomography" is derived from the Greek tomos (slice) and graphia (describing).
Their computer systems integrate the data of the moving individual slices to generate three dimensional volumetric information, in turn viewable from multiple different perspectives on attached CT workstation monitors.

Physiology or Medicine 1979 - Press Release
Computed tomography, on the other hand, provides in each section a very detailed picture of the brain and its cavities as well as the fluid-filled spaces surrounding the brain, i.e., the cisterns and subarachnoid spaces, everything visible directly on the picture.
With computed tomography it is possible to carefully analyze all these factors, from a scaled image of the body on a level with the tumor.
His contributions to the development of the theory of computer-assisted tomography was early and anticipated the coming development by several years by being the first to state the principles for reconstructing a cross-section of tissues in an organ based on these X-ray projections.

With their ability to make many calculations quickly, computers transform vast streams of raw data gathered by scanning machines into vivid images of tumors, infections, internal bleeding, and other life-threatening conditions.
In CAT scanning, an X-ray scanner probes the patient from multiple angles, gathering information on the density of internal organs and tissues.
In a medical situation, the influence of mathematics in tomography usually ends when an individual scan shows the location of a tumor or a leaking artery.

Computed Tomography, CT Scan (or Computer Assisted Tomography/CAT Scan) is a simple, non-invasive, and painless diagnostic procedure.
It utilizes xrays that focus on a specific area of the body, gathering multiple images from different angles to create a cross sectional and 3-dimensional picture.
The information retrieved is processed through a computer and depicts the organ or tissue being scanned in excellent detail.
