Central processing unit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
CPUs provide the fundamental digital computer trait of programmability, and are one of the necessary components found in computers of any era, along with primary storage and input/output facilities.
In 1964 IBM introduced its System/360 computer architecture, which was used in a series of computers that could run the same programs with different speed and performance.
These newer concerns are among the many factors causing researchers to investigate new methods of computing such as the quantum computer, as well as to expand the usage of parallelism and other methods that extend the usefulness of the classical von Neumann model.

Array-type computer processor patent invention   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The processor element performs each of the data processes according to an instruction code that is data described in a computer program for each of the plurality of operation states that are sequentially transferred.
The computer program of array-type computer processor 100 is also data described as an operation state in which the instruction code of state control unit 105 sequentially transfers to switch the context for each operation cycle.
Thus, when array-type computer processor 100 stops its operation and the current operation state of state control unit 105 and the event data for data-path unit 106 are obtained, the next-stage operation state is disclosed.

Computer software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Computer software (or simply software) is the programs that enable a computer to perform a specific task, as opposed to the physical components of the system (hardware).
The concept of reading different sequences of instructions into the memory of a device to control computations was invented by Charles Babbage as part of his difference engine.
Computer software is so called in contrast to computer hardware, which encompasses the physical interconnections and devices required to store and execute (or run) the software.

Computer Processors - Computer Crazy Online
Processors are fundamentally simple in that they take an incoming signal, perform some simple operation from the instruction, and pass back a result.
The central processor used to be built from a large grid of glass vacuum tubes as transistors, and a computer would fill large rooms.
Boutique computer manufacturers like Cray once built enormous monster computers that were designed to far outpace the speed and efficiency of regular computer processor chips.

 Computer Processor Information (CPU)
Modern processors contain millions of transistors which are etched onto a tiny square silicon called a die, which is about the with of a standard thumb.
The 8088 was the first Processor used in the original IBM PC and XT personal computers because it was less expensive than the 8086 microprocessor because of the availability of less expensive eight-bit data bus supporting chips made it the microprocessor for the IBM PC.
The processors used 296-pin SPGA form factor that is physically incompatible with the first generation versions.

Generally, pressing down on the larger end of the clip and then moving the clip away from the processor should release one end of the clip allowing for the heat sink to be removed.
If you are installing a ZIF socket processor into the computer, begin first by moving the metal arm generally located on one of the sides of the socket to a vertical position.
It is recommended if your computer processor is a 200MHz or higher and does not already contain a processor heat sink that a heat compound / grease be applied between the processor and heat sink to help distribute the heat away from the processor.

Independent Computer Advice: The Computer Processor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The "Processor" plugs directly into the motherboard and as the name suggests it processes the instructions received by the computer.
Processor chips have evolved through various generations (Pentium 2, 3, 4 etc. manufactured by Intel, AMD K6, Duron, Athalon etc. manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices) with each generation being more powerful than the last.
The speed of chips in older computers (Pentium 3 equivalents or less) is often quoted in MHz (Megahertz) as opposed to the GHz (Gigahertz) used for more modern equipment.

Dave's Guide to Buying a Home Computer
The overall speed of a computer is affected by several things, but most notably the clock speed of the processor and the speed and size of the instruction/data bus.
The instruction/data bus is the pathway for data communications between the computer's processor and the various components in the computer and is analogous to the buses that run in the city.
By just saying that their computer is essentially the same as the brand name computer, most people assume that all of the specifications associated with the brand name computer apply to the in-house computer and leave it at that.

Bona Fide Reviews - Dual Core Computer Processors: Luxury or Necessity? Article
A processor contains some memory, often referred to as cache, either L1, L2 or L3, depending on how close it is to the core, the core itself, and a few other essentials.
Unlike the multitasking environment that is usual for a computer either at home or at the office, games rely on the brute force of a powerful processor to help them along.
As with processors in the past the mainstream of dual core processors is dominated by the two big guys, Intel and AMD.

Tomorrow's computer chips could be grown in petri dishes rather than carved from slabs of silicon.
The problem faced by traditional manufacturers is that the wires inside a processor must remain relatively short if they are to work efficiently, which is why computer chips are small and flat.
The new wiring technology would join multiple processors together, allowing cube-shaped chips that pack a real performance punch.
