Computer telephony integration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
Computer telephony integration (CTI) is technology that allows interactions on a telephone and a computer to be integrated or co-ordinated.
The phone does not need to be attached directly to the user's computer, although it may physically be integrated into the computer (such as a VoIP soft phone), requiring only a microphone and headset in the circuit, without even a keypad, to connect to the telephone network.
A typical CTI application manages the event flow that is generated by the telephony switch during the lifecycle of a call.

Computing & telecoms Computer Telephony Integration: The convergence of computing and telephony devices in terms of their hardware, software or application.
CTI involves computer control of telephone calls and physical telephone devices, as well as the binding of telephone calls to media services, such as voice processing, fax processing, video conferencing, and telecommunications.
CTI is commonly divided into First Party CTI, where a telephone and a computer are directly connected, and Third Party CTI, where the telephone system and the computer network communicate through a telephony server, with no direct physical connection between the telephone and the user's computer.

The computer telephony integration field is awash with information in the form of supplier brochures, magazine articles, conference papers, academic course notes and papers of all types which can be found searching the Internet.
CTI applications require integration, of which integration between the CTI hardware platform and the switch is relatively straightforward and integration between the CTI software platform and the organisation's enterprise computers and PCs is not much harder.
