  Handbook on ADAPTIVE COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY
The first part of the manual focuses on general adaptive computing technology as a foundation for access, and the second part focuses on isues that are unique to the science, engineering and mathematics fields.
If a person cannot use a standard computer due to a physical or mental impairment, he or she has an "access barrier" to computer-use, and an adaptive device can be used to help the person use the computer.
And while manycompensatory computing strategies employed in these fields are highly specialized and relate specifically to scientific and mathematical notation, graphics and charts, and specialized science lab equipment, disabled people who work in these fields will benefit from the adaptive technology that is commonly used by people in all fields.
