Computus in its simplest definition is the art of ascertaining time by the course of the sun and the moon.
This art could be and was a theoretical science, such as that explored by Johannes of Sacrobosco in his De sphera--a science based on arithmetical calculations and astronomical measurements derived from use of the astrolabe or, increasingly by the end of the 13th century, the solar quadrant.

 Computus Calendar Program
Computus.exe (named after the medieval Computus, also a calendar document) is a calendar conversion program for a DOS-platform (it needs MS-DOS 2.11 or later) written in Borlands Turbo-Pascal V.6 and operated by very simple key-strokes.
As it is a pre-Windows application no copy/paste facilities are included (sorry!) but it is quick and does not need much memory or disk space so it works even in small handheld Dos-computers such as the HP200LX making it an efficient tool for the traveling or library browsing crowd.
The result is computed according to the different methods applied before and after the Gregorian calendar reform.

H-France Review   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The edition of the computus that Courtenay provides as Appendix 1 to his book, along with his analysis of the text in Appendix 2 and his description in chapter four of how the account was put together, seem thoroughly to corroborate his interpretation.
The rather utilitarian motives postulated for those undertaking university education in the early years will need to be reconsidered, as will the conventional emphasis on poor scholars; and the university of Paris will lose some of its lustre as an international institution in the thirteenth century.
The final contribution Courtenay has made is to integrate the information from the computus with his already extensive knowledge of individual masters and students of the period to provide scholars with a Biographical Register of those named in the document.

Faith came to the history of medicine from a background in the history of medieval science, particularly chronology and calendars.
Her translation and extensive commentary on Bede's The Reckoning of Time was published by Liverpool University Press in 1999; she has also published numerous articles on Bede and on the medical computus (technical chronology and calendar construction).
Besides the Articella project, Faith is planning a book on early medieval medicine; a study of the care of the body in the Middle Ages; a critical edition of the treatise on computus by Gerlandus Compotista (ca 1086); and a translation of Bede's Commentary on the Apocalypse.
