Conan the Barbarian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Conan the Barbarian (also known as Conan the Cimmerian, from the name of his homeland, Cimmeria) is a literary character created by Robert E. Howard in a series of fantasy pulp stories published in Weird Tales in the 1930s.
Conan is a Cimmerian (not to be confused with the historical Cimmerians), a barbarian of the far north; he was born on a battlefield and is the son of a flsmith.
Conan is far from untouchable and has been captured several times (knocking himself out running into a wall drunk after being betrayed, although he still slays the people initally sent to arrest him, a fall from a wounded horse) but never as a result of martial failings.

Goofs: Continuity: Conan's mother is pointing the sword at the attackers' leader with both hands on the hilt.
It's quite easy to dismiss this film based on its genre (barbarian slash-em-up) and the limited acting ability of the star (Schwarzenegger), but Conan is nothing short of a masterpiece.
To fully appreciate Conan, though, you have to watch it and then watch another barbarian-type film from any era (Beastmaster, Krull, etc.) and the difference will be stunning.

The RPG system of Conan works as follows: You gain experience points for each enemy you defeat and immediately can distribute them in more than 50 categories (some of which are depending on others, so not all of them are accessible at first).
Conan's animations are also excellent, and his textures are very detailed, which unfortunately does not go for the other characters in the game, which look a whole lot worse textured.
Conan has to conquer many areas, from ancient temples, jungles, castles and cities...the number and different styles are as manifold as are the numbers and styles of his weapons and opponents, ranging from several kinds of sword, axes, maces and from skeletons, undead, knights, priests, shamans, wolves, snakes, carnivores, to name a few only!

Conan the television series was in my opinion every bit as good as the books and the two 1980 movies.
For those who did not get the chance to see the show, Conan was joined by his friends, the axe-weilding Vulkar, the mute staff-fighting Zzeben, the animal-spirit fighter Bayu, the thoughtful and wise dwarf Otli, and the strong and beautiful female theif Karella.
All things considered, Conan the series is a show that I will miss and would have enjoyed seeing a second season.
