 CONCEPCION, Capital of Bíobío
Captaincy of Chile was divided into two Intendancies: Santiago and Concepción. The city of Concepción became the head city of the Intendancy of Concepción, whose jurisdiction extended from the river Maule to the Frontier. The first Intendant of Concepción was the Irishman don Ambrosio O'Higgins, who later became Governor of Chile and Viceroy of Perú.
At this date, the city of Concepción, having successfully passed its fourth centenary, is carrying on its rich historical inheritance; it is not only the center of a big metropolitan area, it is also the capital of the most important region in the country after Santiago: the Biobío region.
This body was to govern the Kingdom of Chile. This Royal Audience carried out its activities for ten years, during which Concepción was the capital city of the Kingdom of Chile.

 THE TRAMWAYS OF CHILE
The development of electric tramways in Concepción and Talcahuano was largely a product of the American-owned W. Grace and Company, parent of the steamship line that served Concepción and other ports along South America's west coast.
As noted in the previous chapter, in addition to the intercity tram line from Concepción that was inaugurated on 4 July 1908, Talcahuano also had two local electric tram services, from the port area to Las Salinas, and via Calle Bilbao to the railroad station at Arenal.
In that year the Ferrocarril Urbano de Concepción inaugurated a horse tramway with double-deck cars built by John Stephenson in New York.

In addition to the ruin of the church, Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción, he said, “We found one room here, probably one of the cloisters attached to the church, which was in a good state of preservation,” Carleton said in his report (quoted by Ivey).
Today, at Quarai – now one of the three pueblos that comprise the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument – you will still find the ruins of the Purísima Concepción church, the most complete of the missions, with a floor plan in the traditional form of a cross.
Today, at Abó, the second pueblo in the National Monument, you will discover the ruins of a cross-shaped church, San Gregorio, that is perhaps a third larger than Purísima Concepción.
