Concert film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A concert movie, or concert film, is a type of documentary movie whose subject is an extended live performance by a musician (or, more recently, by a comedian).
Typically, concert films have simple, descriptive names such as "(performer) Live", "(performer) In Concert".
Early concert films include Woodstock (1970, focusing on the Woodstock Festival), The Concert for Bangladesh (1972, focusing on the August 1, 1971 Madison Square Garden concert organized by George Harrison for the benefit of Bangladeshi refugees), and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1973, focusing on David Bowie's July 3, 1973 concert).

The Song Remains the Same (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The video of the film was released on October 25, 1990, and the DVD was released on December 31, 1999.
The first attempt was the filming (by Peter Whitehead and Stanley Dorfman) of Led Zeppelin's Royal Albert Hall performance on January 9, 1970, but the lighting was judged to be mediocre, and the film was shelved (this footage was later remastered and featured on the 2003 release Led Zeppelin DVD).
For all of its technical faults, today many view the film as an interesting historical document that captured the band at a particular point in time when its popularity was about to peak, and, on a more general level, as an accurate representation of the excesses of the music and show-business industries in the 1970s.

There's a strange back and forth to the film; the concert is trying to educate this generation to what is going on in Tibet and the problems there - that's certainly good.
The film is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and the audio again, varies from performance to performance, but never really rises to the level of "good".
The three of them discuss their plans for the concert, and their ideas for what they wanted to show in the film in terms of the balance of concert footage and information.

On June 9, 2000 Ennio Morricone was in Ghent, Belgium to give a unique concert just before the beginning of the Flanders International Film Festival (for which Hans Zimmer is to give a concert in October).
The first part of the concert was a performance of a score composed by Morricone for the oldest American film available: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF KING RICHARD III (1912).
While the film was screened for the audience, Morricone's score was vibrantly performed, under the composer's direction, by the National Belgian Orchestra.

AMCTV.com - Celebrating the Concert Film
But thanks largely to the Oscar-winning success of Woodstock (1970), (a film that did for documentaries what the original event had done for the American consciousness) the Seventies saw the rise of the concert film as a new tool in the musical and social arsenal of the rock 'n roll performer.
It coincided with the emergence of a new breed of filmmaker who was able to capture not just the music, but the entire concert scene on film, and bring the immediacy and intimacy of a live concert experience to entirely new audiences.
Though a shortened version of the concert film was broadcast on television in 1974, the full length theatrical version remained unseen until 1983.

Stuart wanted the film to be more — to reflect the views of people in the fl community — so in the weeks following the concert, he had documentary crews roaming the streets, shops and churches of Watts, and he interspersed footage of the people they encountered between the film's live performances.
Not surprisingly, given the variety of settings in the film and motley materials he was given to work with, Jim Austin faced quite a challenge when it came to developing a good surround mix for the film.
At press time, the film is slated to play at the late-April opening of the new Stax Museum in Memphis, and a limited theatrical release was planned for early June.
